Working as a truck driver is a versatile profession and can involve anything from transporting construction materials, furniture and food to fuel, chemicals or live animals. It's an independent profession that requires good planning skills and the ability to organise your work. At the same time, it's a service job that involves a lot of customer contact when loading and unloading goods.

Train to become a truck driver

The aim of the training is to ensure that you learn the skills and knowledge needed to become a truck driver. With the help of our experienced instructors, we will help you achieve your personal training goals, so that you can drive safely and serviceably on the road. During the training, you will learn the basics about different transport vehicles and their engines. You will learn how to drive both trucks and lorries and how to load and unload different types of goods. The training consists of three parts:

  • Vocational traffic-vux: 300 points
  • Goods transport: 200 points
  • Goods handling-vux: 100 points

In total, the programme comprises 600 credits. The length of the training varies from person to person and depends on how much support you need to achieve your goals. Usually the training lasts about 30 weeks.

How do I apply to train as a truck driver?

There is a great need for truck drivers in the transport sector. The need for trained truck drivers is predicted to grow in the future and over the next ten years, the country's hauliers will need to employ nearly 50,000 new drivers. That's why we need you if you are interested in training to become a truck driver!

At Jarla Trafikskola we are therefore proud to offer Komvux courses at our traffic school in Älvsjö. When you apply, make sure you have a valid driving licence. You apply for a driving licence from the Swedish Transport Agency.

When you submit your application, a check is carried out to ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements. If you are eligible for the course, you will be invited to an assessment of your skills. You will then be informed whether you have been admitted to the course. The course is eligible for student grants. You apply to CSN yourself.

How to apply

1. Check your eligibility
In order to apply for the programme, you must meet a number of requirements. Among other things, you must ensure that you have a valid driving licence from the Swedish Transport Agency. Read more about the eligibility requirements here.

2. Submit your application

Once you have checked your eligibility, you are welcome to submit your application to Komvux. In connection with your application, they will check your eligibility to ensure that you meet the requirements for the programme.

3. Skills mapping & personal interview
If you have submitted a complete application, you will be invited to a skills assessment and a personal interview.

4. Admission notice
After completing the skills assessment and personal interview, you will be notified whether you have been admitted to the programme.

What does it take to train as a truck driver?

To be eligible to train as a truck driver, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be at least 21 years old
  • You must have a driving licence valid in Sweden
  • You must have a valid driving licence - if you don't have a driving licence at the time of your application, we can help you get one in place afterwards
  • You should have good driving experience
  • You must have a passing grade in Swedish or Swedish as a second language at basic level or equivalent knowledge
